Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Tuesday, June 14.
Ekitike “back on track”
Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Magpies’ pursuit to sign Hugo Ekitke is “back on track” after his recent injury scare. The 19-year-old youngster hobbled off for France U20 against Mexico, causing fears to heighten over his proposed transfer. However, his substitution is now thought to be precautionary as Ekitike was an unused substitute for the 2-1 win against Venezuela yesterday.
ChronicleLive understands a deal for the youngster is close, with Toon chiefs in “advanced talks” with Reims to make the striker their second summer signing. Romano confirmed the deal is still on and hinted the situation may be resolved in the coming days.
He tweeted: “New, positive contact between Hugo Ekitike’s agent and Newcastle. Deal back on track after agreement in place with Reims, but waiting on the agent side. The injury wasn’t as bad as first thought. Newcastle are on it with player’s camp – this week is expected to be important.
Owls want Anderson
Sheffield Wednesday have tabled a formal loan bid for Newcastle prospect Elliot Anderson, according to The Northern Echo. An impressive stint at Bristol Rovers – under the tutelage of Joey Barton – poses a dilemma for Eddie Howe.
The report claims United will give the Whitley Bay native a chance to impress in pre-season before deciding whether to send him out on loan. Rovers are also keen to re-sign Anderson ahead of their return to League One.
Eight goals in 21 appearances for the Gas spearheaded their promotion charge and earned him the moniker “Geordie Maradona” at the Memorial Stadium. As one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Newcastle’s academy in years, managing the 19-year-old correctly next season is essential for his development.
Arsenal to challenge Newcastle
Arsenal will battle it out with Newcastle to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claims the Gunners are willing to pay £40million plus to land the Serbian, who is also linked with Newcastle.
The 27-year-old has two years left on his current deal and is one of the hottest properties in Serie A. Partnering him alongside Bruno Guimaraes would get Toon supporters purring ahead of the new campaign.
