Italian exchange student helping CM Russell High tennis stay unbeaten
If this reporter had been to attempt to create this tale in Luca Alvisi’s native language, the headline over would go through as follows — and I’m quoting the Google English-to-Italian translation information — “Studente italiano in scambio che aiuta CMR a rimanere imbattuto.”
Alvisi, a junior at C.M. Russell High College, is a overseas exchange university student from Italy. And when it will come to athletics, he has two enjoys: soccer and tennis.
And ideal now, with the spring sports activities timetable in total swing, the Rustlers tennis team is benefitting from his perform. At the No. 2 singles location, Alvisi has not misplaced a match this year. Thanks to Alvisi and his teammate at No. 3 singles, Clay Walker — also undefeated — the Rustlers are 13- in twin matches this year just after wins over Bozeman Significant and Bozeman Gallatin.
The Rustler boys are headed into the remaining week of the typical season in very good shape. Tuesday, they head to Kalispell to consider on Flathead and defending state Class AA champion Glacier. On Thursday, it is really Crosstown in opposition to Wonderful Falls Superior at the CMR Tennis Courts.
Alvisi is having fun with his time on this facet of the pond. Prior to this year, it experienced been “five, 6 decades” given that he experienced been equipped to enjoy tennis on his native soil.
“I have constantly preferred tennis, and I performed both equally soccer and tennis, but about five or 6 several years ago, the (schoolwork) grew to become as well a lot, so I had to make a choice,” Alvisi explained. “And I chose soccer.
“I am joyful that I can engage in suitable now. I like my teammates, I imagine we have a fantastic shot this 12 months we have been accomplishing pretty great so significantly.”
Towards Bozeman, last year’s condition runner up, Alvisi scored a 6-1, 6-4 victory in excess of Pau Casas, then stopped Emerson Fry of Gallatin 6-like, 6-like, and assisted established the tone as the Rustlers downed the Hawks 7-1 prior to dispatching the Raptors 5-3.
The secret to Alvisi’s results in the wake of not playing aggressive tennis for these types of a extensive time is a thing Allen Iverson would not want to hear: Apply.
“I can say that I’ve been performing really really hard in exercise,” he reported. “Carson (Wealthy, CMR’s No. 1 singles) has been helping me get far better each working day he’s a definitely superior participant, much too.
“We are all seeking forward to divisionals and point out. Future 7 days we have Kalispell and Wonderful Falls High, and we are looking ahead to ending the period undefeated.”
Walker continued his roll, taking down Bozeman’s Evan McKinley in straight sets of 6-1, 6-1, then took treatment of the Raptors’ Wynn Wagner 6-2 and 6-3.
The top a few doubles groups for the Rustlers — Carter Corn/Josh Stimac, Noah Stimac/Brady Pike and Brady Corn/Aedan Bingham — also scored two wins each.
CMR head mentor Byron Boyd famous that this weekend was Bozeman’s promenade weekend, and the Hawks’ coach informed him various of his best gamers experienced to overlook Saturday’s matches, leaving JV gamers to fill the open up slots.
In the meantime, THE RUSTLER Girls are on a roll of their individual in downing the Woman Hawks and Woman Raptors by identical finals of 6-2.
At 12-1, the CMR girls also head into the closing week of typical time level of competition acquiring to really feel rather superior about by themselves. They finished in a tie with Helena Money for fourth put in 2021, just 4 factors out of the hardware.

FOR Fantastic FALLS HIGH’S teams, 2021 has been a understanding approach.
Just a couple of times soon after knocking off Belgrade, the Bison boys could only get just one match get and shed 7- to Gallatin and 6-1 to Bozeman.
The No. 1 doubles staff of Copper Reitz and Connor Sturgess outlasted the Hawks’ major duo of Oliver Ward and Henry Riendeau 6-3, 6-4 for the only gain of the working day.
